A Strange Job
Is there anything more boring than waiting in line for a long time?
If you don’t want to wait in line or don’t have time, you can hire someone to wait in line for you. This job exists in many countries including China and the United States. People who do this job are called “line waiters.” In some countries, people have to stand in a long line to get an identification card or a passport.
People hire line waiters for these situations. The line waiter stands in line until it is almost the customer’s turn and then calls the customer to come. Sometimes when a new product comes out, like the latest smartphone, people wait in line for hours
outside stores to buy it. Some people pay a line waiter to stand in line and buy the product for them.
